Winter Series Gets Underway
Winter Series, Races 1, 2 & 3, 16 November,
2008
The F4 from the west had enough northerly in it to bring it off the land, and consequently it was quite shifty, and quite chilly, but the sea was relatively flat. Emma and Martin Keen set a windward-leeward course, and 8 boats prepared for the start of Race 1. Regrettably, only 4 finished the race. Dick Holden trawled and wrapped the spinnaker on his RS400, and Russell Constable had rigging problems in his. John Norris capsized his Comet and went home and Anthony Fogg misread the course. David Robinson and Nicola Hortin got it right and won the first race.
For Race 2 it was down to a F3 and the two RS400s were soon in battle. David trawled his spinnaker at the leeward mark allowing Dick to take the win using white sails only. Race 3 and David made no mistakes to take another win and lead the series, with Jack Holden in his Laser Radial in second place.
